The 1998 United States Open Championship was the 98th U.S. Open. The event was held from June 18-21 at the Olympic Club, Lake Course in San Francisco, California. Lee Janzen won his second U.S. Open and major championship by defeating Payne Stewart by one stroke. Janzen became the second golfer at a U.S. Open at Olympic Club to come back from seven strokes behind in the final round and win the tournament.
